Learn more about us on our YouTube Channel or Blog Posts Who You Are: Reporting to the Sr. Corporate Tax Manager, as our Sr. Tax Accountant, you join a team of highly skilled tax professionals and will specifically support Corporate Income tax. You won't just be crunching numbers, you will be the go-to technical expert developing and facilitating our U.S. federal and state corporate income tax compliance, quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provision, and estimated payments, all while keeping pace with a high-growth SaaS business. Operating in our high-volume SaaS environment means owning our provision and compliance workflows, applying strong technical tax research and analysis to complex issues, maintaining SOX-compliant internal controls over income tax reporting, and ensuring our tax positions are well-documented, defensible, and scalable. If you thrive in a fast-paced setting and love turning complex tax data into streamlined, automated processes, you'll fit right in. In this role, you will drive collaboration across three key pillars: Internal Teams: Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, and Legal to seamlessly integrate income tax provision and compliance into our financial reporting and forecasting workflows. External Partners: Collaborate with external preparers, advisors, and auditors to thoroughly verify, document, and assist in defending our global income tax positions. Auditors & Regulators: Provide accurate, well-documented, and timely support to external financial statement auditors and federal/state tax authorities, examinations, and reviews. What You Will Do: Compliance & Filing: Facilitate the end-to-end preparation, review, and timely filing of U.S. federal and state corporate income tax returns, quarterly estimated payments, and extensions, in accordance with SOX-documented processes and deadlines. Tax Provision (ASC 740): Prepare or review quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations, including current and deferred tax computations, effective tax rate reconciliations, and related financial statement disclosures, ensuring each step is supported by compliant workpapers and evidence. Technical Research & Legislative Tracking: Perform technical tax research and analysis on federal and state tax law changes, apportionment methodologies, and evolving income tax nexus standards, documenting conclusions to an audit-ready standard as HighLevel expands. Audit Defense: Support the team through federal and state income tax audits by efficiently managing information document requests (IDRs) and partnering with leadership to advocate for and defend established tax positions. SOX Controls & General Ledger Reconciliation: Own and execute key SOX controls over the income tax close process; prepare or review monthly and quarterly tax account reconciliations, including deferred tax assets/liabilities and income tax payable accounts, within NetSuite. Cross-Functional Advisory: Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, and Legal to evaluate the income tax and SOX control impact of new entities, intercompany transactions, and transfer pricing arrangements. What You Bring: Experience: 5 years of progressive experience in direct/corporate income tax (federal & state), preferably with a mix of public accounting and corporate experience. Technical Tax Acumen: Solid working knowledge of ASC 740 and U.S. federal/state corporate income tax fundamentals, with growing ability to research tax issues and help document clear, well-supported conclusions. SOX & Internal Controls: Hands-on experience operating within a SOX-controlled environment or knowledge of, including designing, executing, and documenting income tax controls, and supporting control testing with internal and external auditors. SaaS Industry Expertise: Familiarity with tax issues common to fast-growing, multi-state SaaS companies, including apportionment, and state modernization of income tax rules. Tech Stack Mastery: Familiarity with industry-standard ERPs and financial data systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle), along with tax provision and compliance platforms such as the Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE suite or Corptax. Analytical Muscle and AI-Enabled Process Improvement: Advanced Excel skills (pivots, VLOOKUPs, data manipulation) required to handle massive, high-volume transactional datasets; familiarity with Power BI, Alteryx, or other various dashboard and data manipulation tools is a plus. Identify opportunities to leverage or automate processes and surface insights, helping unlock team capacity for high-impact analysis. Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation or Master of Taxation degree is a major plus. Agility & Growth Mindset: Ability to pivot quickly when priorities change and navigate fast organizational growth as an exciting challenge rather than a roadblock. Data-Driven Problem Solving: Proven track record of digging into data to not only identify tax issues but actively propose and execute automated solutions. Clear & Cross-Functional Communication: Skilled at translating complex tax provision and compliance concepts into plain English for non-finance stakeholders, alongside strong documentation skills for future reference and audit support.
